His publications include short story compilations: Los oscuros [The dark ones] (Alfaguara, 1990) and El alma del erizo [The soul of the hedgehog] (Alfaguara, 2002), novels: La dulce ira [Sweet rage] (Alfaguara, 1995), La muerte de Tadzio [The death of Tadzio] (Alfaguara, 2000), winner of the Ramo?n Go?mez de la Serna Prize, and Los amores confiados [Confident love] (Alfaguara, 2005), and a collection of letters titled Amante del sexo busca pareja morbosa [Sex lover seeks kinky partner] (2002). And published the acclaimed novel titled Las manos cortadas [Hands cut] (Alfaguara). In march 2012, Anagrama published his new novel La mujer de sombra.
